Teacher Resource Day 2007
: Flyer for 2013 Teacher Resource Day - March 11, 2013

Piloted in April 2007, Teacher Resource Day is an event produced through collaboration among a group of UW-L content faculty, teacher education faculty, and Murphy library staff.

As teachers and school administrators well know in these times of tight school budgets, money is limited to purchase books and materials for the K-12 classroom, library/media center (LMC), public libraries in general. To maximize purchasing power, it is important that all materials purchased are of good quality and also fit into science, technology, engineering & math (STEM), social studies, and/ or literacy curricula.

One way to find quality book and materials is to read published reviews; however, a review is no substitute for having a chance to see and read the actual book in-hand, view a DVD or try out software. With this in mind, UW-L faculty and staff have received grants to purchase many of the high quality books for UW-L’s Alice Hagar Curriculum Resources Center at Murphy Library. These books and materials were purchased from Science Books & Films’ “Best Lists” (older lists can be found at, the National Science Teachers Association’s “Outstanding Science Trade Books for Children” (see, NCSS' Notable Tradebooks, and other sources.

Teacher Resource Day gives participants a chance both to peruse the latest quality, non-fiction STEM and Social Studies trade books, DVD’s, etc. and to explore our STEM website, which provides supporting materials. For more details on Teacher Resource Day, see
