Portfolio of La Crosse People

Past and Present

River View of La Crosse

La Crosse County Court House

Introductory

The early history of La Crosse is shrouded with
a halo of glory, ineffaceably wrought by the untiring
hands of the people whom Fortune chose
to be the pioneers of a busy city; it is interwoven
into a chain of events, each link of which has a
certain bearing upon the present and which appears,
as it were, a galaxy of brilliants that yearly
grows brighter unto the present day. Sturdy
men were the pioneers of La Crosse and vicinity
and well has the standard been maintained by following generations;
and shall we not keep green the memory of those
who have done and are doing so much in building the city?
The answer comes, By all means, let it be done. And in
response to the repeated calls of citizens for a portfolio of the
makers of La Crosse, to be suitably arranged and elaborately
finished that all may have an opportunity of retaining forever
the features of old-time associates, the publishers of the La Crosse
Magazine have undertaken the task and now present
to the citizens, and former citizens, of La Crosse the product
of their best endeavors - "The Portfolio of Prominent
La Crosse People, past and Present."
Sincerely,
THE PUBLISHERS.
